A Feast of Food Films in Boulder

These showings will make foodies hungry.

One Evening, One Feast, One Film

CineChef is a food-focused evening (Friday, March 3, 5 to 7 p.m.) during the acclaimed Boulder International Film Festival. Taking place at the Rembrandt Yard Event Center, it features fabulous eats by some of Boulder’s best known (and best) chefs: Steven Redzikowski (Oak at Fourteenth), Daniel Asher (River and Woods), Salvatore Prola (PMG), Kevin Kidd (24 Carrot Bistro, Erie), Lauren Mechin (Jill’s, St. Julien Hotel), Sam Perrett (Jax Restaurant), John Platt (Riffs Urban Fare) and Jen Bush (Lucky’s Bakehouse & Creamery). Mechin won the 2016 Best CineChef competition. Wine: Francis Ford Coppola Winery. Local beers: Boulder Beer, Post Brewing Company.


After the food and drink, guests walk a few short blocks to the First Presbyterian Church (15th and Canyon) for the 7:30 screening of “Ella Brennan: Commanding the Table,” about running the James Beard Award-winning Commander’s Palace in New Orleans. Ella’s son, Alex Brennan, is scheduled to be there in person.  Click here for tickets ($95).

Another Evening,  Mini-Feast, Another Film

The Flatirons Food Film Festival annually takes place in October in venues on and off the University of Colorado campus, but on Sunday, March 12 at 2 p.m., it is honoring the 30th anniversary “Tampopo.” This  comedy about ramen (call it a spaghetti western, if you wish) has been called “the best food film ever made.” The showing of this digital restoration at Meunzinger Auditorium is preceded by Before the film, there will be a sampling of ramen from Black Cat Farm-Table-Bistro and Rama Ramen. In addition, Chefs Custom Cutlery will showcase its Japanese knives.  Other vendors include The Niwot Doughnut Company and Upstart Kombucha. Admission is just $10 ($9 for students and seniors). After the  screening, guests are invited to gather for a bowl of ramen at My Ramen & Izakaya (3280 28th St., Unit #2, Boulder). Between slurps and bites of ramen, expect a lively combination about the movie. Click here to RSVP.
