EatDrinkDenver.com surveys the local food and drink scene
When I launched this blog back in 2006, naming it after a food-oriented Colorado guidebook that I had written, the blogosphere was still relatively small. Of the 50 million or so blogs, only a teenyl fraction were food blogs or Colorado blogs — and even fewer were specifically Colorado food blogs. Now, there are something on the order of 115 million blogs (most of which, says blog guru Sree Sreenivasan, are”read only by the blogger and his mother).
Visit Denver, the Mile High City’s century-old convention and visitors bureau, has launched a new local food and booze blog called EatDrinkDenver. The editor is Westword “Café Society” editor Lori Midson, a long-time local restaurant writer with deep knowledge and strong opinions about the Denver dining scene, with content ”provided by a host of Denver’s most in-the-know food writers and bloggers.” I wasn’t recruited to be one of them, and I’d like to think it’s because I’m in Boulder rather than Denver, not because this blog was deemed unworthy. EatDrinkDenver juust got going, so content is still a bit thin, but with the content providers and resources at its disposal, I’ll be it fattens up real fast.
- Farm Fresh & Specialty Food Stores: Colorado produce and dairy products, including tips on where to get the best, freshest items
- Beer, Wines & Spirits: The ever-expanding world of Colorado microbreweries, wineries and distilleries
- Food Festivals & Events: A comprehensive roundup of the city’s best food events, including biggies like Denver Restaurant Week and Denver Beer Fest to cultural and culinary festivals reflecting Denver’ diversity and neighborhoods.
- Chefs: Spotlights the men and women behind the city’s best restaurants, including chef Q&A’s, recipes and more.
- Street Food: Food trucks, food carts and related events.
The new website is designed to be interactive, which means reader-provided content as people share their local food experiences. There are no restaurant reviews as such, but rather comments and information about unique the topics bulleted above.

I like your blog.
Besides, someone has to write about Trader Joe’s.
Or maybe Midson just doesn’t want a boring blogger who whines.
Melissa – I’ll try to be more intersting, but maybe never interesting enough for some readers. Maybe I could be more interesting if I got a paycheck for blogging rather than just trying to share my own experiences and news that I find interesting. Meanwhile, I understand there’s a book coming out in a month or two called “Food Blogging for Dummies.” I guess, to borrow a phrase, you ain’t read nothin’ yet!
Drew – Glad you like my blog.
