Suite 100 is Sweet Anchorage Eatery

South Anchorage restaurant is local favorite

My friend Jeanette took me to Suite 100 Restaurant and Lounge, a South Anchorage restaurant that few visitors are likely to find — unless they too have a friend in town. It is located in an office building in a space that could, just as easily, house a hair salon, day spa or medical office. Locals know it for good, fresh food and a congenial, welcoming atmosphere.  Owned by chef Kelly Nichols and his wife Heidi, Suite 100 locally owned and appeals to a local clientele.

An open kitchen is near the entrance, and the pleasant dining room is lightened with hanging plants, lots of greenery, art on the walls and unadorned wooden tables. We took the “girl food” eating route — a glass of wine apiece, a salad each and an appetizer portion of scallops from Cape Fairweather in Southeast Alaska . We were both in the mood for just that kind of light, casual meal — and we had no one around to urge us to eat more.

Suite 100's open kitchen turns out tasty, attractive contemporary dishes drawn from various culinary traditions.
Salad of baby spinach, mushrooms, red onions, blue cheese crumbles, croutons, bean sprouts and mango chutney vinaigrette.
Fig and goat cheese salad with mixed greens, tomatoes, dried Mission figs, chevre, spiced candied pecans and port wine vinaigrette.

Appetizer portion of scallops, five perfect scallops in basil cream sauce that more than sufficed as an entree.

Price check: At dinner, starters, $8-$13; soup, $4.50 per cup, $6 per bowl; salads, $4-$7; entrees, $11-$36.
