Fourteen days of great food at greatly reduced prices
Tonight is the first night of Denver Restaurant Week, which runs through March 11. A record 301 restaurants have signed on this year and are offering prix fixe, three-course dinners for $52.80 for two or $26.40 per person. I’ve been told that Denver’s is the largest such restaurant week in the nation, brining in an estimated $9.2 million — reportedly more than much larger cities like New York, Chicago and L.A. Some participating restaurants are multi-location chains, but most are independent and the list certainly includes some of the top restaurants in town — “in town” being loosely defined to stretch from Longmont to Littleton. Of course, most are in Denver itself. I’m scheduled to go to three.

Some of the participating chefs toasting 2011 Restaurant Week with Denver Mayor Guillermo "Bill" Vidal (I think that's he in the chef's coat and big wineglass). Two weeks from now, the chefs will be looking a lot more tired. Photo by Steve Crecelius, courtesy Visit Denver.
